I try to do the same thing in my classroom (explaining the reasons why I want the kids to do certain things)- and have come to realize that there are very few things that I have reasons for or actually really care about! Hopefully, thinking things through helps me make rules that matter so that the kids are more willing to follow. . . We'll see.
